2019 Vienna Open in Bratislava
March 30 - 31, 2019, Bratislava, Slovakia
2019 VIENNA OPEN >>
Welcome to the official website of 2019 Vienna Open in Bratislava. Due to unforeseen circumstances the long time planned tournament cannot be organized in Prater Park in Vienna. Instead, the tournament moves to a neighboring city of Bratislava in Slovakia, just 60 km away from Vienna and even less from the Vienna airport. The temporary 18 hole course in an urban setting with blossoming trees and bushes provides a challenge for players of all skills as it offers risk and reward options on almost every shot. Bring all your throws with you as you will need need them on hilly open meadows or in woods. Furthermore, spring is a great time to visit Bratislava, as the historical city center is just a few tram stops away from the course. Enjoy the rather cheap drinks and meals and play some good disc golf! This event will serve as the first ever TriPointTour Tournament.
BRATISLAVA >>
First, check the video above for a brief presentation of Bratislava. With half-a-million population, right on the border of three countries, Bratislava is a fast living hipster city easily accessible from both Vienna and Bratislava airport. It offers a mix of old fashioned feudal ancestry combined with huge communistic plans spiced by the early capitalism craziness.
You can stroll through the charming historical center, admire the 60's and 70's architecture in the suburbs, or watch the many growing skyscrapers over the former gray lands. It is all here. Also, during the tournament and important presidential elections are held in Slovakia, so you can experience the thrilling atmosphere of possible win of a first ever female president in Central Europe.
Or try some of the Slovak cuisine specialties, wide selection of local wine or sit in some of the hipster cafeterias all around the city.
TRIPOINTTOUR >>
In 2019 a new competitive disc golf tour starts in Central Europe. The six event tour with 2 events in Austria, 2 in Slovakia and 2 in Hungary is aimed to annually host the best competition in the region with guests players from outside the region. The region is particularly strong in female and junior divisions, so besides a fierce battle in MPO, a good player field is expected in FPO, MJ18 and even FJ18. Actually, this may be the only international series in Europe that provides competition in FJ18. Best result from events in each country counts for each player for the series championship.
The region offers some of the best disc golf courses in Europe - with St. Thomas in Austria, Smolenice, Krpáčovo a Bratislava in Slovakia, or Obuda Island in Budapest in Hungary. Welcome to the new tour.
URBAN DG >>
Urban disc golf brings disc golf to the streets of the city. Out of bounds areas - surrounding roads, sidewalks, buildings and parking lots are everywhere, similarily as at Slippery Rock University during the 2015 PDGA Worlds. Comenius University in Bratislava provides a beautiful park space with moderate elevation changes, tree alleys, and space for long holes while staying all the time in the proximity of an urban space. Check the video below for the visualization of part of the space used for the course.
