LOCAL TRAVEL

TO / FROM BRATISLAVA / VIENNA

Foreign players may fly to Bratislava (BTS) airport that serves a couple of low-cost airlines (e.g. Ryanair destinations: Dublin, London-Stansted, Bergamo, Birmingham, Liverpool, Luton, Rome, Brussels, Gerona, Bristol, Edinburgh, and also Norwegian Air Shuttle from Oslo and Czech Airlines from Prague).

Alternatively, the players may fly to Vienna (VIE) airport. There are regular comfortable buses directly from the airport to Bratislava leaving approximately every 30 minutes. The price of a one-way ticket is around 4-5 Euro, the travel takes 45-60 minutes. The buses stop directly in front of the arrival terminal at the airport, check the bus info screens in the arrival hall of the airport and follow the signs to the bus stop.

We can help you to arrange accommodation in Bratislava if you decide to spend some extra time there. Bratislava has a nice short and technical 18 hole permanent discgolf course in the city around Comenius University building that is accessible by public transportation and also 12 hole permanent discgolf course deep in the hills above the city (requires 40 minutes walk) that offers a great shade over the summer.

TO / FROM SMOLENICE

The best way to get to Smolenice is by car. If you are coming from the south, you do not need to buy a Slovak highway vignette. Just exit from the highway in Austria towards Fischamend and follow the local road to Bratislava. Highways within the city limits are free in Bratislava (but not the connector from the Kitsee border to the city!). Once in Bratislava, follow the local road to Modra/Pezinok on the way to Smolenice. The local road takes about 30-40 minutes more than the highway.

Once in Smolenice, head directly to the tournament center:

GPS 48.511611, 17.432145. Parking is available on the street, and next to the church.

If you need a transportation from Bratislava to Smolenice (approximately one hour car ride, 54 km) on Friday afternoon or Saturday morning write it into the note. We will try to find you a ride to the tournament and also back from the tournament on Sunday afternoon.

There are also regular buses and trains from Bratislava to Smolenice. A connection can be found using http://cp.atlas.sk/vlak/spojenie/ (select English in the lower right corner). Smolenice castle (and the course) is approximately 7 minutes walking distance uphill from the bus stop, the train station is out of the village and you may need a car ride to the course from there. If you let us know we can wait for you at the bus stop or train station to pick you up and provide a ride. In any case, let us know how you travel and we will try to help you as much as we can.
